Instructions for Oral and Poster Presentations
Hints for oral presenters
All lecture halls will be equipped with a PC computer and a beamer, as well as an overhead projector. Softwares in use for computerized presentations will be Windows XP as operating system, Powerpoint 2007 as presentation software and Adobe Acrobat Reader
8.0. A laser pointer will be available. Except in small auditoria, microphones will be in use.
It will not be possible to use private notebooks. Adapting them to the beamer is too time consuming and will axe the tight schedule. The organizers will arrange all presentations on computers in an appropriate order. Apple MacIntosh users should make sure their presentation looks alright when run on a PC.
Electronic presentations should be sent by email to the Fall Meeting secretariat before the congress, along with a short résumé of the presenter or handed directly to the operator in the lecture room at least 30 min. prior to the opening of the corresponding lecture session. Electronic presentation files will be handled strictly confidential and destroyed immediately after the conference. No third party will get access to them.
It might be a good idea to carry a CD or a USB-key with your presentation backed-up on it. It is also advised to have a spare set of overhead sheets ready in case of any severe problem with the electronic presentation.
Please observe the schedule of your presentation on the detailed program and note that your time slot (20' in analytical chemistry, 15' in computational-, medicinal-, organic-, and physical chemistry, and only 10' in inorganic & coordination chemistry) includes the discussion and at least one minute devoted to the introduction of the speaker. In analytical chemistry, the length of your talk should then be calibrated not to exceed 15 min. In computational-, medicinal-, organic-, and physical chemistry, this duration should be restricted to 12 min. While in inorganic and coordination chemistry, talks must be reduced to only 6 min.
Short poster presentations
Some divisions allow a limited number of short poster presentations. Selected people will present a normal poster, but additionally, get the opportunity to inform the public of their poster in a short (3 minutes, 3 slides) presentation. No discussion will follow presentations.
Hints for poster presenters
Poster panels will be numbered according to the numbers of the abstracts published in CHIMIA
8-9/2008. A helpdesk will provide presenters with the information where to find the right panel and some material to affix posters.
Poster Size: The maximum size for posters is A0 oversized or 900 x 1245 mm. Portrait format (vertical) is a must.
Last minute posters: Some panels will be available for late posters. These presentations will also be reviewed for the poster prizes. Late abstracts can be made available at the registration desk.
